Little Super Womb

One of the gifts at my baby shower was Motherhood and Fatherhood poetry magnets from our friend Kriss. We’ve been playing.

I’m 28 weeks on Friday and now entering the third trimester. I feel like it’s going fast and I’m just now starting to get a bit uncomfortable. Especially going up our four flights of stairs. Some days I have tons of energy and sometimes it’s just not there. Erik took me hiking at Garden of the Gods Sunday and I’m a pretty pathetic hiker these days. Still, we had a nice afternoon and my husband who’s in great shape patiently plodded along slowly with me. This is the first hike where I’ve actually been lame enough to stick out my hand going up hills so my husband could help drag me up them. That baby sho is gettin heavy, Yes ma’am.

Our friends who so generously lent me their car this past fall and winter have returned from England. So good to have them back. Since the car needed to be returned Erik went out and bought me a cool Mommy car. We do love Volvos! Erik was on a roll and also traded in our Jetta for a Honda Element. Kell calls it our leggoe car. We likes it.

Is anyone old enough to remember this groovy luggage set? We were out cruising yard sales this past Saturday and I scored this nifty bag. Samsonite came out with this set the year I was born – 1974. Wish I could acquire all of the pieces.

Love the orange interior.

Nothing much going on except I’m working a lot and I need a good book badly. Any suggestions Amy? The book I sadly just finished was, The Time Traveler’s Wife. I read about it from Amy and when she brought it to Kell I flipped through it. After the intriguing opening and references to my favorite poet (Rainer Maria Rilke), Wim Wenders and others I had to go out and get it. I really tried to make it last as long as I could but I finished it in a week. Now I sadly shuffle through the books at the library and Borders looking for something to spark my interest. Book suggestions please people! I need something to read. Pregnant lady gets antsy.

"CLARE: It's hard being left behind. I wait for Henry, not knowing where he is, wondering if he's okay. It's hard to be the one who stays. I keep myself busy. Time goes faster that way.

I go to sleep alone, and wake up alone. I take walks. I work until I'm tired. I watch the wind play with the trash that's been under the snow all winter. Everything seems simple until you think about it. Why is love intensified by absence?

Long ago, men went to sea, and women waited for them, standing on the edge of the water, scanning the horizon for the tiny ship. Now I wait for Henry. He vanishes unwillingly, without warning. I wait for him. Each moment that I wait feels like a year, an eternity. Each moment is as slow and transparent as glass. Through each moment I can see infinite moments lined up, waiting. Why has he gone where I cannot follow?"

-excerpt from the book

Well it’s time for me to get out in the fresh air and enjoy my day off. As Ariel Gore (writer for Hip Mama) says, “the third trimester should be spent loafing, dancing, daydreaming, and following that strange nesting urge that compels you to make enough lasagna for a small army and scrub the linoleum in your kitchen with a toothbrush."

I've read some decent books lately:

She's Come Undone
Midwives (may not be appropriate for you right now, but a good book nonetheless)
House of Sand of Fog (currently reading)
The Birth of Venus

and I always recommend The Other Boelyn Girl - one of my favorites. Good luck finding a good book to cuddle up with.

You look so gorgeous Honey! Reading recommendation BEL CANTO by Ann Patchett. Lovely and soft. Interesting story. If in the mood for really funny family growing up stuff I recommend David Sedaris.
I would now like the record to show that although I am but a small peripheral cog in your life wheel, my name has altered an icon. Kell said it was a Leggoe car? That's my way of spelling! Lego might not like that, but I do.

I loved Time Traveler's Wife, read it too quickly too. When i get a hold of a good book, I read it in like one day- i read it in grocery lines, red lights, while taking a shower (i have gotten quite good at holding the book outside the stream of water and lathering the shampoo at the same time), and while cooking dinner. And when its over, i am sad, like i have lost a playmate. I just finished reading The Dogs of Babel, and that is my book recommendation for the day. Its sad, but good.

Just finished the book
MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA. Its a great piece of history for Japan as well as an interesting story.
Not smutty at all - just a story about a girls life!
Let us know if you read it!.
Also... start looking at childrens books for your future kid!
All the best!

I was going to recommend David Sedaris but Currie beat me to it. He's hilarious!

Oh, and I'm so jealous of your bag!

I was so glad to catch up on your writings. You are looking so good! I hadn't pictured Erik's new car like that at all. He said "boxy" so I had something entirely different in mind. Looks a little like his dad's car from the photo. I have a piece of Samsonite that same shape but not nearly as colorful as yours. It is plain charcoal gray. Haven't seen it in awhile as it is in Angel's closet - probably covered with mildew by now! I need to get it out and use it - you can pack tons of stuff in it! Our love and prayers to you, Erik and baby

I love the orange interiors. If i had my mac hooked up i could upload some pics. but alas. take good care now!
